Several of us found the video, and its statistics, slightly intimidating, especially from a teaching point of view. We must teach students w
hose jobs don't even exist yet. This affects all areas of study--not just technological fields (i.e., the mention of the expansion of the English language since Shakespeare's time). We did doubt some of the predictions, since they are based on current growth trends and progress, and we can't know that it will continue at that rate.
We found the video to be intimidating. It is scary to think that the information that we are learning now will be outdated in 2 years. We think that the video stresses the importance of taking personal responsibility in your learning to keep up, as well as teaching our future students to do the same.

Katheryn says she does not understand how a computer can be smarter than a person, but is excited that it is so influential.
Bridgette says finds it intimidating becuase of not growing up as accustomed with computers as many of the students of today, but finds it very interesting. She is also eager to learn skills to apply to her future teaching experience.
Sarah says that the information given was overwhelming to imagine the world in which children are growing up in today. Especially in the classroom setting.
Ron says cool, yay, and hip hip hooray. Also that technology is important in our growing world.

We thought the video was a good representation of how overwhelming and intimidating technology can be. From a teacher's perspective, technology is important on many levels. Keeping up with grades and learning about new programs will be essential throughout our careers. Also, now students have cell phones, lap tops, ipods and beyond at a younger and younger age. So in that respect, we will need to be aware of that and try to remind them to be respectful about using them.
The video really opened our eyes with how overwhelmingly fast technology is growing, making it seem like one would need to work for a technology company in order to keep up. While the video made it seem like technology is almost self-propelled and America is barely involved at the moment, the truth is that from an educational standpoint we need to teach the future generations to be able to take part in, create, and, most importantly, filter or evaluate all the new information in the global community.

It's a little overwhelming that in 3 years all the information we learn will be out-dated and basically useless. It's frustrating that the U.S. is not as technologically advanced as other countries.

Our group feel that the facts are very interesting, but in the same breath very intimidating. It is a little scary to know that by the time we get out of college to teach students that our knowledge will be outdated. How can we help our students when we don't know technology ourselves?

All of this information is scary and overwhelming. It makes humans seems obsolete. Our students are going to be more technologically-savvy than our generation of teachers. We can see the drawbacks and benefits of technology affecting us and our students. Technology seems to be moving so fast that we can't determine whether something is beneficial or not. We're scared of 2049...

Our group found the information made us feel small, especially the computer surpassing the capacity of knowledge potential of the human brain. It makes a nervous about the future. We thought the fact that our students would be offered jobs that aren't in existence yet was exciting from a teachers point of view. The staggering numbers of technological communication proves how small and complex the world is and by using technological resources we can arm our students with the tools they need to succeed in that world.
